Mphumzeni Lukhele

Mphumzeni Andreas Lukhele is an award-winning audit and forensic executive who combines strategic leadership, AI-driven innovation and data analytics to strengthen governance, combat fraud, enhance assurance and support executive decision-making.

He is the Chief Internal Audit & Forensic Services Officer at MTN Eswatini Group, with over 15 years of experience across telecommunications, fintech and professional services. He provides strategic assurance and advisory services to Boards, Audit & Risk Committees and Executive Management on governance, risk management, internal controls, fraud risk and organisational resilience.

Mphumzeni has established and led high-performing assurance functions, including setting up the Internal Audit function for Bayobab Group across Africa and the Middle East and leading MTN Group-wide audits. He has also driven governance and risk transformation initiatives, including Continuous Control Monitoring, integrated assurance, fraud risk management and real-time assurance reporting.

A strong advocate for innovation, he leverages automation, data analytics and Artificial Intelligence to deliver proactive, data-driven risk insights and enhance audit effectiveness.

Mphumzeni holds an MSc in Forensic Investigation & Audit and is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Forensic Investigation Professional (CFIP), and Professional Internal Auditor (PIA). His contributions have been recognised through the 2023 Excellence in Internal Audit Award (Private Sector) and Runner-Up for Excellence in Internal Audit Leadership Award from the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa.
